Floating shelving from the London Cabinet Company can provide the perfect contemporary shelving solution for alcoves in period or new London homes. The floating shelves that we make are 100% tailor made and individually shaped on site guaranteeing a perfect fit for any shaped alcove. When the floating shelves are finished there are no visible fixings or seams and every shelf is fine sanded and gap-sealed to the wall. The shelves are fixed very firmly and can usually (depending on walls etc.) take loads such as heavy art books or records.
For spans of up to 1.2 metres wide a shelf of 50mm in thickness is generally adequate but we can make them thicker (upto 80mm) for aesthetic requirements or for spans wider than 1.2 metres where extra rigidity might be needed.
Floating shelving is best suited to alcoves where all three surounding walls are of masonry construction although it is possible to fix floating shelves to hollow and stud walls too. If you are unsure of the type of wall surrounding the alcove then we can normally talk you through this on the phone and ascertain what's solid and what isn't. As with practically all of our work we would need a suitable outside space for cutting and shaping not too far from the alcove.
We price floating shelves from £75 each for spans of up to 1.2 metres wide with an additional charge for painting. For spans from 1.22 metres up to 2 metres wide we charge £100 per shelf with an additional charge for painting. For floating shelves or any other requirements please contact us.
